How I can help?
Dysphagia (Swallowing) Assessment and Therapy
Safe and enjoyable eating and drinking is an important part of health, wellbeing and quality of life. If you are experiencing difficulties with swallowing, I will work with you to understand the nature of those difficulties and identify practical ways to make eating and drinking as safe, comfortable and enjoyable as possible.
I provide comprehensive swallowing assessments, including clinical ("bedside") swallowing evaluations in the clinic or your home. Where further investigation is required, I can arrange and interpret instrumental assessments such as Fibreoptic Endoscopic Evaluation of Swallowing (FEES) and Videofluoroscopic Swallowing Studies (VFSS). Following assessment, I offer personalised recommendations which may include advice on food and fluid textures in line with the IDDSI framework, compensatory strategies, and rehabilitation programmes including Expiratory Muscle Strength Training (EMST) where appropriate.
I also work closely with families, carers and other healthcare professionals to ensure that swallowing recommendations are practical, person-centred and aligned with individual goals and preferences. This may include care home training, participation in multidisciplinary team meetings, and support with complex decision-making around eating and drinking.
Voice therapy
Your voice plays an important role in everyday communication, work and social interaction. Whether you are recovering from vocal strain, managing a voice disorder, or looking to improve your vocal quality and confidence, I will work with you to understand your concerns and help you achieve your individual voice goals.
I provide comprehensive voice assessments, including a detailed case history and perceptual evaluation of vocal quality. Following assessment, I develop a personalised therapy programme tailored to your needs, which may include education about vocal health, strategies to optimise voice use, and evidence-based therapeutic techniques to improve vocal function and reduce vocal effort.
I work closely with ENT consultants and other healthcare professionals to ensure a collaborative and holistic approach to care. Joint appointments can be arranged where appropriate, helping to provide integrated assessment and management of your voice concerns.
